I've been thinking a lot about performance over the last while and trying to understand it in terms of both impulse and reception. It's such an ancient and familiar ritual for a bunch of humans to gather round and watch/listen while a smaller bunch of humans, (or just one human) does something. As a sometime performer myself, I'm interested to discover why I do it. As yet, I don't know.
