Well, the day finally arrived, like the tide inevitably coming in after a great day at the beach, washing all before it. You might well wonder what the hell I’m on about, in which case you haven’t been reading the previous posts, and indeed you don’t know me very well either. Or at least, haven’t talked to me within the last few months…
Therese O’Reilly went travelling.
That’s it, the show’s over for the time being. My girlfriend has left the country. I’m sad about it, because I love her very much, and I’ll just have get used to the fact that she’ll be out in the world for anywhere up to 14 months and I may even not see her until after that (depending on what either of us does over the coming year or two). The show’s over. As I say to people, however, I was introduced to her back in June as “Kev, this is Therese, my sister Lydia’s friend who she will be travelling with when she leaves in October” (I know it’s not technically correct English, but it’s ‘Tallaght Diction’, as Martin Bruggeman calls it) so I was alerted to the possibility of her leaving from the outset. Little did I know that I would fall in love with the bundle of fun I met that night…
The last few days have been hectic to say the least; culminating with throwing clothes on at 3am this morning for a strangely quiet drive to the airport with Therese, Lydia and Lydia’s father who I will refer to as Mr Leigh, though I also know him as Kenny’s Da, Matt and they call him ‘Santa’. Because he looks like Santa Clause. He does occasionally drive like Bo Duke, but not this morning, apparently because he hadn’t been drinking. And that was that; I waited with them in the airport until they went through security, and then I went for a blub in a quiet corner somewhere. They have left, and are on the way to India.
You can read about their adventures at www.ideasforcheapstuff.com which is the site I made for Therese and her band of girleens as they travel around. In fact, I’ll post up there today too, to mark their leaving. It should be good, they are determined to write and post photos, and I’ll have to really get cracking and finish it. Which leads me to one other piece of information.
My trusty laptop is now a semi-functional paperweight. It was fine (as it is these days, which is to say temperamental) until Monday, when after replacing the power until which blew on Sunday night it failed to work altogether. It’s some sort of screen/computer-sleep related issue which means it’s close to impossible to use the laptop at all. Luckily the data is unharmed; it’s just no accessible. It is just fantastic timing, and I could really do without it.
More pictures and detail of the weekend’s events (of which there are many) when I get myself sorted out and the laptop working- check back this post when I’ve added some photos.
Keep your head up chap. The time’ll go faster than you know. Looking forward to blog entries from them anyway.
Ha ha, yes, of course it’s all good. But thanks for the thought. They’re certainly blogging away; I hope they spend more time adventuring then writing, a mistake I nearly made myself…
